I recently received a copy of Enya’s new album for the Christmas Season. It’s titled “And Winter Came…” Click on the play button above to hear just one of the fun songs on this album.
I have been a fan of Enya for YEARS – her voice and the music she plays is just simply fantastic. It has a dreamy, far away beauty about it. It soothes my nerves when I listen and this album is no exception. The music is just simply beautiful. Perfect for this time of year.
Enya is unique in that she does all the vocals and most of the instrumentals individually and then they are mixed together into the unique sound that is only Enya. There are a few songs where she gets a little instrumental help, but for the most part, it is her individual sessions all mixed together. When you hear all the different things going on in the background – it is simply overwhelming to realize it’s all from one woman!
The tracks and my initial thoughts on each:
1. And Winter Came… – beautiful instrumental – feel the snow falling as you take an evening walk.
2. Journey of the Angels – soft, gentle; simply lovely.
3. White Is In the Winter Night – This is a fun, uplifting song.
4. O Come, O Come Emmanuel – haunting and beautiful.
5. Trains and Winter Rains – pretty.
6. Dreams Are More Precious – speaks of the Star and that our dreams are being answered, a song of hope.
7. Last Time by Moonlight – Reminds us that nothing is forever and to remember the little things.
8. One Toy Soldier – I love this song – it reminds me of the Misfit Toys from Rudolph!
9. Stars and Midnight Blue – A gentle love song.
10. The Spirit of Christmas Past – Going through a hard time – don’t throw this time away.
11. My! My! Time Flies! – This is another fun song – and oh my – it’s SO TRUE!
12. Oiche Chiuin (Chorale) – This is in the Celtic language I believe and it’s beautiful! It’s the song we know as “Silent Night.”
I love this new album and I encourage you to invest in it this holiday season – you won’t regret it! When I think about the time she and her team must invest into each song to mix everything together just right – her albums truly are a labor of love.
Thanks Enya – I LOVE it!
Have a Blessed Holiday Season!
Kiki
